Hamster Toy Variety is Important

For a good hamster life it is important to have a wide variety of hamster toys.  When you keep an animal in an artificial environment it is important to provide some compensations to correct for what would normally be found in its natural environment.  Hamsters are used to running about endlessly, so the most important hamster toy is a running wheel selected to match the size of your hamster.

Hamsters also need hamster toys that allow them to climb, chew, burrow, nest and sleep.  They also need new or different toys from time to time so they do not get bored.  Keeping some hamster toys outside the cage and putting different ones in every week (maybe in a different place) gives your hamster a sense of adventure and discovery like it would have in the wild.

For climbing you can make wooden or cardboard hamster toys using untreated wood or cardboard that does not have printing on it.  Some printing inks can be toxic.  Hamsters like to chew, so these toys may have a short life depending upon your hamster.  You might also find wooden or plastic ladders by looking in bird cage supplies.  Keep an eye on your hamster toys when you use plastic items that are easy to chew.  A hamster full of plastic is not a healthy hamster.  If plastic hamster toys are getting chewed too much remove them and replace them with wooden toys.

For burrowing, fill a medium sized plastic, wood  or cardboard box with fine sand.  Now you have a hamster toy sandbox.  Your hamster will use this to roll around in to clean his coat.  If it is deep enough he will dig in it for a fun pastime and this will also help to keep his nails from getting too long.

The best hamster chew toys are made form the wood of fruit trees.  You can buy chew sticks of apple wood for instance.  Other natural hamster chew toys are made of vegetable parchment to make tubes or little huts that you can fill with food or hay for variety.  See if you can find natural or organic chews since the hamster will be gnawing on these a lot. A hamsters teeth never stop growing-so chew toys are important to keep his teeth properly worn down.

Some people like to use toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls for hamster toy running tubes as well as old tissue boxes or gift boxes to make cozy rooms or hideouts.  If your paper products are organic then your cardboard tubes are likely to be organic and safe.  If they are not then you don't really know what binders and glues have been used in their making.  Better safe than sick!

If you are industrious then you can fold heavy paper into tubes or boxes, securing it with non toxic, edible glue.  Dead end boxes or tubes can make good places to nest or sleep.  Have a variety of things and shapes.  An old coffee mug or a tall glass on its side with some wood shavings can make a cozy burrow.  A small fish bowl on its side filled with shavings may make the perfect hamster bathroom.  Just don't be surprised if what you thought was the bathroom becomes the bedroom!

Hamster Run About Balls-Hamster toys

Hamsters are known for their instinctual ability to run great distances. They love to explore and are extremely curious about their surroundings. A wonderful hamster toy that allows them the ability to RUN and EXPLORE is known as a Run about ball.

These balls are usually made of a transparent (clear) plastic that allows the hamster to see through to the outside world and move about freely. They are available in many sizes and colors. Be sure to get one that is large enough for your hamster to fit in properly.

It is great fun to watch your pet hamster scurry around the house or yard while safely inside the run about ball. The ball protects your hamster from other pets or from being stepped on accidentally by people when they are outside of their usual cage or habitat. This is also a great place to put your hamster while you are cleaning its cage and they LOVE this activity!!

When choosing to buy this hamster toy look for one that is WELL VENTILATED (lots of air holes). This prevents your hamster from overheating while inside the ball especially if you take the ball outdoors. Hamsters are sensitive to temperature so please do not leave your hamster outside in the sun too long while inside the ball. Return your hamster to its home after playing in the ball so he or she can rest, eat or drink water.

To keep your hamster safe ALWAYS WATCH YOUR HAMSTER while inside this hamster toy. Use the run about ball ONLY on the floor. Be sure to keep it away from any stairs or staircases. Do not use the ball on a table, a kitchen counter or any surface where the ball and hamster can fall off of. If you take the run about ball outside be sure the ground is flat-no hills or slopes where the hamster can roll away out of control. Also watch for any other animals that may bother or try to attack your pet while in the run about ball.

Another way to use the run about ball is to buy what is known as the Super Pets brand HAMTRAC. This is made up of 8 pieces of plastic, connectable track that makes an oval shape about four feet long and two feet wide.

There is even a little car you can put your hamster in that is called the Super Pets brand Critter Powered Cruiser Car which also fits onto the Hamtrac. You can put two or more track sets together to form a bigger track.

The advantage of using the track is that you will always know where your hamster is because the run about ball or Critter Powered Cruiser Car stays ON THE TRACK!!

You will provide for a good hamster life and have hours of fun with these hamster toys!!!

Hamster Running Wheels-Toys for a good Hamster Life

Hamster toys are essential to keeping your hamster entertained and interested in their environment. Hamsters have keen minds and need new experiences to keep them from experiencing boredom and depression.

You can create a quality hamster life by providing them with hamster toys such as HAMSTER RUNNING WHEELS. Hamsters will not do well if they cannot run. Running is probably the MOST important activity for hamsters after having access to food and fresh drinking water.

Hamsters are nocturnal and can run many miles, mainly during the night. You will want to choose a running wheel that is QUIET especially if the hamster is kept in the room where you sleep. Choose a hamster wheel that is made of sturdy plastic with a SOLID running surface. Metal hamster wheels with rungs or cross bars are more likely to cause injuries to your hamster because their little limbs can fall through.

You can find hamster wheels that clip on to the side of the cage or are free standing. The hamster wheel you choose should be open on at least one side to make it easy for the hamster to get in and out. The hamster wheel should also provide good ventilation so your hamster does not become overheated. Choose a hamster wheel that is suited to the size of your hamster. Larger breeds like Syrian hamsters will require larger wheels.

You will have gone a long way to keeping your hamster in good physical and mental condition by providing a proper hamster wheel. This is not just a hamster toy but a hamster necessity!!!  Click on an item to get more information and return here by closing that view box.
